This example of custom basing illustrates the multiple stages and materials used to construct the final piece. While this base was made to be used in game, while also being a stand-out piece in its own right, many custom bases can be more sculptural and designed purely for display.
Each custom base is treated as an extension of the main piece and painted to the same level as the miniature.
Custom Base Design
Even without his mount this mini shows the high level of paint work and depth of detail that comes with this finish. The depth provided by the various levels of highlighting and shading stands out on his cloak.
Display Level Mounted Character
This custom base features a removeable central base for gaming with. The clarity of the gold with subtle shading radiates from his chest plate. Highlights on the rear head guard give contrast and pick up the directional highlighting used on the other elements of the piece.
